Living in Rome is nothing less than a dream. I love the beeping horns of scooters, bustling markets, winding cobblestone streets, and of course the amazing selection of mouthwatering food. Nonetheless, getting away from everyday city life for a staycation is always a nice break from the noise of the city.

Just outside of Rome’s centro storico (historical center) is one of Rome’s most luxurious hotels, Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Resort. Fellow travel writer and blogger, Livia Hengel, and I decided to escape into the oasis of Rome Cavalieri for one of the most fabulous girls getaways ever. This resort literally has everything you could possibly dream of in a hotel. From their luxurious, yet extremely comfortable rooms, panoramic city views from our balcony, a fully equipped gym, a private art collection to decorate the hotel, outdoor and indoor pool and spa areas, and of course, one of the most impressive hotel breakfast spreads that I’ve ever indulged in.

Rooms & Interior –

The traditional style rooms perfectly match the hotels art-centric and luxury decor. The beds are beyond comfortable, and a nightly turn down service is provided. The bathrooms are bright and spacious, equipped with Salvatore Ferragamo toiletries that smell incredible. Since the hotel is situated at the top of Monte Mario hill, it’s definitely worth requesting a city view room. All rooms include a private balcony, which is a perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee or evening glass of wine while site spotting across the panoramic view of Rome.

Style & Decor –

The 1960s built hotel has a somewhat boxy, postmodern aesthetic. Though, through the front, doors you’re transported to a lobby that could be also classified as a museum. The hotel is decorated with an array of original artwork, including three large Tiepolo canvases. Outside, the hotel’s gardens are superbly maintained, making them the perfect escape to relax poolside, perched above the city of Rome.

Food & Drink –

Setting the bar high as home to Rome’s only 3-star Michelin restaurant, La Pergola, Rome Cavalieri serves up some amazing food for their guests from the hotel breakfast to the Imperial Lounge. The breakfast is one of the most extensive I’ve ever experienced in terms of hotel buffets. Everything from pastries, freshly baked breads, almost every style of eggs, local meats and cheeses, fresh honeycomb, crepes, crispy bacon, and even asian spring rolls and fried rice. It’s the perfect way to start the day, especially if you plan on setting off on a busy sightseeing adventure in Rome. For guests that have access to the Imperial Lounge, this was again an incredible spread. The lounge was nonstop food that went from breakfast, afternoon tea time, aperitivo (happy hour), to after dinner drinks and desserts.

Facilities & Amenities –

The hotel’s extensive services and amenities make you almost never want to leave. Well, maybe just to witness the marvelous sites in Rome. Everything you could ever need lies within the quarters of this hotel. For starters, the gym is fully equipped with wifi-capable cardio machines, yoga studio, pilates reformer and all necessary weight machines and free weight equipment. On the more relaxing side of things, the pool and spa are a luxury hotel dream. The spa includes access to Turkish baths, saunas, treatment rooms, and both indoor and outdoor pools.

Location –

Situated at the top of Monte Mario hill, this position provides sweeping views of Rome’s skyline. The downside to this ideal viewpoint location is its’ vicinity to the historical center and Rome’s main sites. It’s at least a 30-minute taxi ride to sites like the Colosseum or 15-minutes to the Vatican. The hotel is more than accommodating when it comes to ordering taxis for guests, and there is also scheduled shuttle bus that goes between the hotel and Barberini in Rome’s center.
